The famous tradition of leaving cookies and milk as a treat for Santa is one that is very popular. Santa is working very hard and those cookies and milk are well deserved, and of course you cannot forget carrots or reindeer food for the reindeer to fuel up before heading back to the North Pole. With Christmas just THREE days away, have you ever wondered how this tradition began and how many cookies Santa will consume on Christmas Eve?

There is not an exact date, but the tradition supposedly began in the 1930s, and there is a theory that those who had potential to be on the Naughty List chose to leave the snack as a last minute gesture to make sure that present would be left under the tree. It sounds like that gesture worked and kids all over the world were leaving cookies just in case there was a chance they were not on Mr. Claus’ Nice List. According to an article on Delish.com about one billion cookies and 500 million cups of milk are left out worldwide for Santa Claus. Imagine if Santa ate ALL of those cookies? Perhaps he only takes a bite or two and a little sip of milk. After all these years, he must be very good at pacing himself throughout his travels.

Whatever kind of cookies you’re leaving out for the jolly man in the red suit, we are certain he is appreciative of the fun snacks. We hope you enjoy the magic of Christmas!

P.S. Don’t forget the snacks for the Reindeer!
