A Cup of Coffee

A Cup of Coffee

One of the first things I do every morning is make a cup of coffee. Although sometimes I simply use a coffee maker, I’ve found the French press is one of the most flavorful ways to make your cup.

To make my coffee, I start out with whole coffee beans. I typically pick a darker roast from the store for more flavor. After measuring the desired amount, I place the beans into the grinder to make medium-sized coffee grounds.

After the beans are ground, I pour them into the French press, followed by hot water at a ratio of about a 1:15 coffee-to-water. Once the coffee and water are in the French press, I then gently stir, place the press onto the press just above the water line and allow the flavor to extract from the grounds for a few minutes. Once the coffee looks ready, I push down on the press, moving excess grounds to the bottom and filtering the coffee. I then pour the coffee into my mug, adding a bit of creamer and a packet of sugar.

I learned this method of coffee making from a good friend and I have to say it is easily my favorite way to make coffee at home. Although there are easier methods, instant or drip coffee makers simply do not stack up to the enhanced flavor provided by the French press.

I like to start my morning off right -- and having a rich and rejuvenating cup of coffee just makes the morning a bit more pleasant.
