Education is Something that Can Never be Taken Away from You

Once upon a time, someone said to me, “Your education is something that no one can ever take from you." That has stayed with me all these years and I realize why this is one of the most famous educational quotes. It's not only true, it is yours to own.

We all have those days when everything seems to go wrong and you wish you hadn’t even gotten out of bed that day, but then you flip it and you look at some of the positives in your world. One of the things that always pops up on my list is that quote. No matter what someone may say or do to you in your daily walk of life, this is something that you own.  You earned it and invested in yourself to be educated and have the skills to be great at what you do.  You’ve completed your schooling and now have the tools and the confidence that you need to be really good at what you do, and hopefully in a field of something that you love.  That is an invaluable feeling that no one can take away from you.

I have three children in college and one in grade school.  Now that the school year has begun, I will watch each of them grow as they experience new things.  I have had this talk with each one of them.  There will be bad days.  Sometimes seemingly impossible.  But the day you realize that you can get over those hurdles and make the impossible, possible, well – that’s a really big day.

The day they each have that degree they choose to earn; they will be on their way to reap the benefits of their hard work.  Along the way, it is the teachers and professors who help mold their minds and validate the belief each parent has for their child, and for them, I am grateful.  My wish for all the people, young or old, taking time to invest in themselves and gain an education, is to have an extraordinary year.  Keep pushing through.  Rest assured, the knowledge you gain is a forever gift and it can be used in a way to let you live the life that each of you dream of.
