Enjoy the Little Things

I was on my way into the office this morning, the sun hadn’t quite made it up over the mountain yet, so there was still a dimness to the sky.  In the distance I saw a spectacular view of the mountain side, the fog was just starting to lift and was revealing the beautiful bright colors of fall on the trees.  It was a such a pretty view and I thought to myself, what a beautiful site to start the day off with.

Fall is my favorite season and, no, it has nothing to do with pumpkin spice flavored everything!  I do, however, appreciate the nice warm days, the cool nights and mornings.  I do love the smell of the fresh crisp air and the fallen leaves.  To some fall means the beginning of what everyone dreads, the end of summer and winter being just around the corner.  But for me it means cozy early evenings at home with the family, maybe a nice walk in the woods amongst all the beautiful fall foliage.  It means bringing out those oversized sweaters and sweatshirts.

Fall also seems to be the time of year where I start baking more.  From cookies to breads and even casseroles.  This seems to be the time of year when things slow down a little bit and life gets a little less hectic so there is more time to enjoy baking.  My daughter also shares my joy for baking so she’s my little helper in the kitchen.

As I get older, and especially now that I have a daughter, I have grown to realize how important it is to stop and enjoy life’s greatest gifts.  It may be just the simplest of things, like a great view on a fall morning.  We seem to take smalls things like this for granted daily because we are so busy in our day to day lives.  Life goes by so quickly, so do yourself a favor, stop and smell the roses every once in a while, your soul will appreciate it.
