National Good Neighbor Day

National Good Neighbor Day

National Good Neighbor Day

With everything going on in our world today, everyone needs kindness.  What better way to celebrate National Good Neighbor Day than to show kindness to our neighbors. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter issued the following proclamation: “As our Nation struggles to build friendship among the peoples of this world, we are mindful that the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities.”  The date we celebrate National Good Neighbor Day has changed over the years but is now celebrated every year on September 28.

Although we should help and celebrate our neighbors every day, this is a day that we can go above and beyond and make them feel special.  It is also a day that we can get to know our neighbors better.  Here are some ways to be neighborly and celebrate our neighbors

  1. Drop off some freshly baked goods.
  2. Offer to do some yard work for your sick or elderly neighbors.
  3. Offer to pick up some groceries for your sick or elderly neighbors.
  4. Drop off some produce from your garden.
  5. Drop off some flowers.
  6. Stop and have a conversation (get to know your neighbor better).
  7. Invite your neighbors to a cookout.
  8. Offer to feed their animals while they are away.
  9. Offer to pick up their mail for them while they are away.
  10. Send them a card to let them know that you care.

There are many ways to show our Neighbors that we care about them.  So, don’t forget to do something special for them on September 28, and brighten their day!  Happy National Neighbor Day!
