Riding the Incline to Mount Washington
Taking a ride on one of Pittsburgh’s inclines to the top of Mount Washington is a unique way to view the city. As you embark up the side of Mount Washington on the incline, you will have an opportunity to take in the beautiful skyline of Pittsburgh. You can either take the Duquesne Incline or the Monongahela Incline to the top of Mount Washington, depending on what type of view you want of the city. Once you reach the top, taking a walk around Mount Washington will provide you with picturesque views at every turn.
Shopping and Grabbing a Bite to Eat in the Strip District
If you are looking to experience an area of Pittsburgh that best encapsulates the Steel City, you need to visit the Strip District. The Strip District provides a great area to go shopping and grab a bite to eat as well as the opportunity to engulf yourself in the Pittsburgh culture. The Strip District has great restaurants on nearly every corner and shops that are distinctively Pittsburgh in nature.
Visiting Heinz History Center
The Heinz History Center located on the outskirts of the Strip District is the perfect place to experience Pittsburgh’s past and present in one trip. The Heinz History Center presents a fun and interactive way to learn about the history of Pittsburgh and the events that have contributed to Pittsburgh’s rich history. A quick trip to the Heinz History Center can certainly provide a lifetime of memories for you and your family.
Walking Around the North Shore
If you are into sports, taking a walk around the North Shore is just the place for you. The North Shore is the home to both PNC Park and Heinz Field. PNC Park, the home stadium of the Pittsburgh Pirates, hosted its first official game on April 9, 2001 when the Pittsburgh Pirates played the Cincinnati Reds. PNC Park has one of the best skyline views of a city in all of baseball. Also, a short walk down the road is Heinz Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The first official National Football League game held at Heinz field was between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals. Heinz Field also hosted the NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals in 2011. In addition to sporting events, both PNC Park and Heinz Field have been the venues for a variety of concerts.
Visiting Oakland
Oakland is an interesting area of Pittsburgh in which both the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University are located. Only a short distance from each other, one can walk on both the University of Pittsburgh’s and Carnegie Mellon University’s campus in a matter of minutes. Not only are both institutions strong academically, both campuses are certainly aesthetically pleasing.
