Summer Activities in Pittsburgh
There’s a lot to do in the Steel City when the temperatures are rising! Here is a list of some things to do this summer around Pittsburgh:
Attend a Pittsburgh Pirates game
Spend a day at one of the best ballparks in America and catch a game at PNC Park. Go to the July 30 game for a block party with live music, food trucks and autographs. Stay for the end of the game to see the Zambelli fireworks display from the outfield!
Kennywood Park
With fun for the whole family, Kennywood Park is a great place for families this summer. They have some of the fastest and tallest rollercoasters in the state, and their Kiddieland is a hit among younger children. For extra thrills, check out the park’s new Steelers-inspired rollercoaster, the Steel Curtain!
Picklesburgh
Americans consume 26 billion pickles a year, and that’s what Picklesburgh is all about! Picklesburgh is a festival held in downtown Pittsburgh from July 15-17 celebrating all things pickled. Drink a quart of pickle juice the fastest, and you’ll be named the Mayor of Picklesburgh!
Summer Concert Series at South Park Amphitheater
Spend a Friday night at South Park Amphitheater enjoying live music! Allegheny County’s summer concert series is finally back with live music kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Sunday night concerts are also being held at Hartwood Acres Park.
Sandcastle Waterpark
Cool off at Sandcastle where you can lounge by the pool or race down the slides! The waterpark has a wave pool for poolside loungers and a free-fall slide for thrill seekers. Take a trip down the lazy river to end your day at the park.
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village
Located in Washington County, Meadowcroft is a bit outside of Pittsburgh, but the trip is well worth it. Meadowcroft is the oldest site of human habitation in North America, and it has been documenting how western Pennsylvanians have lived for over 19,000 years. At the site’s 16th century Indian village, try your hand at throwing an atlatl, a prehistoric spear used in hunting, or explore the Three Sisters Garden. Test your bartering skills at the site’s 18th century Frontier Trading Post, or get a lesson in a one-room schoolhouse in the 19th century village!
