Wild Turkey Recipe

Finding activities while social distancing may seem difficult, but there are many things you can still do.

One of those is enjoying the outdoors. My son has kept busy by fishing and hunting, which happens to be his two favorite things. Also, spring turkey season has arrived -- so what better way to social distance than to be in the woods?

My son was recently blessed with a nice bird we were then able to enjoy as a family. So I thought I’d share an easy turkey recipe that tastes great.

If you haven’t tried wild turkey, by the way, you don’t know what you’re missing. Hopefully, though, you and your family will enjoy this recipe as much as we do. It’s for turkey nuggets, which are a staple around our house. We love them and hopefully, you will too!

Wild Turkey Nuggets a la Michael Waddell from the “Bone Collector” website

Ingredients

·       Wild turkey

·       Flour Batter (optional 2 cups milk, 2 eggs, 2 cups flour)

·       Buttermilk

·       1 tsp garlic powder

·       Salt and black pepper to taste

·       Add your favorite dry seasoning (optional)

(*multiply by each bird if cooking more than one)

Step 1: Cut up the turkey into small nuggets and soak overnight in buttermilk in the refrigerator.

Step 2: In another bowl add the flour, and your favorite seasoning, if you’d like.

Step 3: Take the nuggets out of the buttermilk and cover them with the flour mixture. (optional* dipping in milk/egg batter before then cover with flour).

Step 4: Grab your favorite fryer and deep fry on 350 until golden brown. Let the excess oil and juices drain.

Step 5: After frying, mix with buffalo sauce (or something similar), or add more seasoning of your choice.

Step 6: Serve to friends, family or other hunters!
